Turkish video director Dağhan İş chose a very dark color palette for this number, which fits its somewhat somber, cinematic, after sunset tone. Surprisingly, the songwriter Ju Kovacevich hails from Gainsville, Florida, the sunshine state. Go figure.

Praything — “The Fetter”

Ju Kovacevich’s presence is easily admired around a certain FL community. His project; Praything is centered around much of the admiration, where its live nature opens up an entirely new perspective for the project. “The Fetter” returns to a lot of those characteristics and also finds itself fitting among everything Praything has released so far.

To be released on his upcoming EP, Kovacevich also lists “Philip Glass, Alzheimer’s disease, and those mood compilation discs from the 90’s with Enya and Enigma” as the inspiration behind the release.

I’m trying my darndest to avoid the “summer is here” obligatory newsletter opening line so let us instead celebrate earth’s slow carbon dioxide and cow fart demise into something new where, no doubt, superior beings will eventually evolve and be better animals than we could ever be!

If you’ve already clicked the video above you are in luck! You will have already been listening to Sleep Good’s new triumphantly hedonistic JAM, Summer Explosion. It’s the A side on their 7” through Austin based promising label Pau Wau.

Speaking of vinyl, Our good friend Lady Lazarus upcoming single has been oh-so-thoughtfully included in Graveface’s charity subscription series with the likes of Mount Eerie, Xiu Xiu, and others, with the proceeds going to help a charity of each of the artists’ choosing. Pretty rad.

I spent some weeks traveling with Hear Hums and it would be hard to love them much more as people or performers but a couple weeks ago at FMLY FEST in brooklyn they arrived via bus from FLORIDA (I can’t even imagine that bus trip) and played a delicate set going in a totally different direction than the past high energy shows I’ve caught. Luckily our buds from Tiny Waves were there to tape the beginning of the set and you should totally watch it. Their cassettes through us are now sold out but Mitch’s new project Peace Arrow is super rad if you’re jonesing for more of their sounds.

All the Boneglow///Delusions aka Dreampeter tapes were all shipped last week so hopefully you’ll be receiving your copy soon. Brad did a really awesome job on the cover. They’re sold out at the moment while I figure out some stuff with the stickers but hopefully I can put them back up soon. More people should be able to buy/listen to this wonderfully inventive pop record.

Japan’s own Magical Mistakes is flying back to the U S of A and will be joined by Mutual Benefit and Little Spoon for an East Coast / Midwest tour before heading West for solo dates. We’re so excited this is happening. He’s been helping create a sweet diy dance scene with INNIT and he’s been consistently making some of my favorite electronic music for 2 years. Check out the new song w/ Jake Falby on violin added some beautiful sonic texture. What a badass!

I’ll wrap this up by extending my sincerest appreciations to everyone that opens up their spaces to performing artists, people who make sacrifices and spend time helping their local scenes, people who are unsatisfied with broken systems and try to help create positive communities themselves. I’ve been traveling more often than staying put this year and I’ve never felt more inspired by people out there doing what they can to make their communities more livable through art, co-ops + sharing programs, demanding better use of public space, and supporting all things local and sustainable by taking part in the activities and lives of the people in their very own neighborhood. I’m hoping to be less scatterbrained and actually have time to write about some of the folks like Sam Portrykus and Kevin Greenspon but alas this newsletter is already getting rambly.

Peace Arrow: “Gems”

Mitchell Myers is already half responsible for one little pile of excellence this year with the release of Hear Hums’ Opens, so it’s no surprise that the first track released under his newly fashioned Peace Arrow moniker is an absolute stunner. Myers weaves his mesmeric vocals in and out over a lush bed of musical trinkets, impeccably scant percussion and field recordings borrowed from Reinsamba & Luftrum. “Gems” adds layer upon layer of sound with each passing second, heightening the tension while also slyly obscuring the plea for redemption and the desire to slough off the modern trappings of society that rest at the heart of the song’s lyrics. Mr. Myers has created a wondrous thing here and I will be eagerly awaiting whatever he comes up with next.

“I don’t need all the pain, hate, and misery of wants and needs and obsessing.”
